Bourreaux et victimes
L’histoire du nazisme est en grande partie écrite, néanmoins derrière l’histoire globale reste des destinés individuelles que plusieurs ouvrages s’attachent à analyser.
Pour comprendre le système nazi, l’ouvrage d’Erika Mann, la fille de l’écrivain Thomas Mann est important. D’une manière prémonitoire, elle a écrit en anglais en 1938 un long texte dans lequel elle montre l’endoctrinement de la jeunesse et les mécanismes éducatifs mis en œuvre pour fabriquer des robots prêts à exécuter n’importe quel ordre. Elle y décortique l’antisémitisme obsessionnel que le régime répète dans les journaux à destination des familles et surtout à l’école : préparation à la défense nationale, culte de la race et appel à l’élimination des « corps impurs de la société ». Une fois cet endoctrinement terminé les jeunes Allemands sont enrôlés dans les organisations de jeunesse qui finissent de parachever le travail d’embrigadement. La force de l’ouvrage est d’avoir analysé à chaud, la catastrophe qui se profilait.
Johanna Lehr poursuit son analyse au microscope de l’extermination des Juifs en France. Elle se penche la vie des femmes déportées qui, en 1943, ont été enfermées au bloc 10. Les nazis menaient des expériences pseudo-médicales sur les femmes. L’ouvrage porte aussi sur la survie après le camp après des expériences de déshumanisation absolue. Elle souligne combien, malgré cela, l’instinct de vie a été plus fort. Sans rien taire, Johanna Lehr vient souligner l’importance de poursuivre le travail d’analyse du nazi pour en souligner le degré de perversité tout en rendant toute leur humanité aux victimes.
