Dans les geôles de Franco
Longtemps la prison politique a été considérée comme principalement masculine, Irène Gimenez montre dans ce livre qu’il s’agit d’une construction.
À travers des entretiens réalisés avec d’anciens prisonniers politiques détenues dans les geôles de la dictature, la documentation interne des organisations de soutien aux prisonniers et quelques archives de la répression. L’auteure montre que la prison a été un lieu d’abord d’enfermement des militantes mais aussi de construction d’espace de solidarité et de résistances.
Après avoir étudié les conditions d’enfermement des militantes, elle montre que jusqu’en 1963, le régime enferme ses opposantes dans des prisons de droit commun. C’est avec les années 1960 que le statut de prisonnière politique devient une revendication et finalement un statut. L’univers carcéral est à l’image de la dictature impitoyable : torture, isolément… En dépit de ces conditions, les emprisonnées arrivent à créer des liens et des réseaux de solidarité en mettant en commun par exemple leur bien et à tisser des liens qui finissent par constituer de solides amitiés. Ces dernières deviennent une forme importante de la résistance au système carcéral.

La guerre, mythe et réalité
Deux ouvrages au statut différent – l’un est un essai militant – l’autre une synthèse historique viennent rappeler la cruauté de la guerre.
Smedley Butler a été général de l’armée américaine. Né en 1881, il a conduit plusieurs expéditions entre le début du XXe siècle et les années 1930. Il aurait refusé de participer à un coup d’État contre Roosevelt en 1933. C’est là que commence sa prise de conscience. Il publie son essai La guerre est une escroquerie expliquant que la guerre est d’abord effectuée parce que les industriels en tirent des bénéfices. Ce livre devient vite un manifeste de la ligue américaine contre la guerre et le fascisme, dirigée par le Parti communiste américain. Comme si l’homme avait abandonné une propagande pour une autre… Tout en rappelant qu’effectivement la guerre sert des intérêts et que les belligérants n’ont cure de la vérité…
Un collectif d’historiens vient en 23 chapitres, montrer les enjeux de la Première Guerre mondiale, mais surtout défaire un certain nombre de contre-vérités. Comme ils le notent, la vérité est la première victime de la guerre.
Mais, ils n’écrivent pas non plus pour faire plaisir au lecteur.
La guerre n’est qu’une conséquence indirecte de l’assassinat de François-Ferdinand. De même, Jaurès n’aurait pas à lui seul et par son engagement empêcher la guerre, peut-être même ne l’aurait-il pas voulu et aurait rejoint l’Union sacrée. Contrairement à la légende érodée, il est vrai, personne n’est parti la fleur au fusil, mais ils étaient aussi très peu nombreux à s’opposer à la guerre. Ainsi chiffres à l’appui, l’imaginaire des fusillés pour l’exemple, en prend un coup au total moins de 800 soldats en France, elle est cependant largement en tête de ces exécutions comparativement aux autres belligérants. Sur un plan purement militaire, il confirme aussi certains éléments l’entrée en guerre des Américains à l’aider à la victoire, alors que l’Allemagne n’aurait pas pu continuer longtemps la boucherie… 23 notices roboratives fort agréables à lire compte tenu de leur aspect rebrousse-poil.
